Shadows and Light

To the left of the radio studio lies a room, a private room. The old key turns the rusty door lock and yes the hinges creek, but inside lies a small, comfortable room, a wood burning fireplace, overstuffed chairs, pillows, a multicolored blanket from a foreign land, exotic materials and pictures gathered on travels. The room, always warm, always peaceful is the home for many of Duke's more personal items not normally on show or heard over the radio. Special music collections meant entirely for reflection of lives past and lives present. Scattered across the old oak table are papers ...  poems ...  words from others, collected, notes jotted down for future use, photographs of lost loves, not just people but places, an attempt to connect an emotion to a view .. a vision.

The books fill one wall, the old vinyl waiting to be converted to a digital format against another. The turntables, the scanners, the computers. Old world resting dreamily against the hum of new technology. Music is a constant, and depending on the time of day or the mood so lies the volume and genre. Whether to sit and read with an escapist air and sounds to ensure the warmth of heart and openness of mind or slip on the headphones and join the musician on stage, this room is there for those who understand such thoughts, that appreciate duality and passions.

There is, as usual, a very tangential element to living a life style such as the Ole Duke prefers. So there will always continue to be changes and additions. But as this is a very private room well then maybe only those allowed in will care to see.

Every picture has its shadows
And it has some source of light
Blindness, blindness and sight
The perils of benefactors
The blessings of parasites
Blindness, blindness and sight
Threatened by all things
Devil of cruelty
Drawn to all things
Devil of delight
Mythical devil of the ever-present laws
Governing blindness, blindness and sight

Suntans in reservation dining rooms
Pale miners in their lantern rays
Night, night and day
Hostage smile on presidents
Freedom scribbled in the subway
Its like night, night and day
Threatened by all things
God of cruelty
Drawn to all things
God of delight
Mythical God of the everlasting laws
Governing day, day and night

Critics of all expression
Judges in black and white
Saying its wrong, saying its right
Compelled by prescribed standards
Or some ideals we fight
For wrong, wrong and right
Threatened by all things
Man of cruelty-mark of cain
Drawn to all things
Man of delight-born again, born again
Man of the laws, the ever-broken laws
Governing wrong, wrong and right
Governing wrong, wrong and right
Wrong and right

Spirit
is Life
It flows thru
the death of me
endlessly
like a river
unafraid
of becoming
the sea
             - Beat Poet Gregory Corso's self written epitaph

You think you see me?
You only see the face I choose to show.
But you don't see what's inside, there's far much more to me to know.

My eyes show light but they hide storm clouds,
Into the eye of this storm only a few are allowed.

This smile you see that shows so pearly and white,
Hides a fear of a dark and lonely night.

Ahhh but don't think that I am just all doom and gloom,
I just hold many secrets like an Egyptian tomb.

There are many facets to me, many stories to tell,
A tale behind my life older than many a church bell.

Feel free to get to know me and watch my story unfold,
For "I make the obvious invisible"...lifetimes of tales to be told.
